Christmas closings.
Looking at tickets arriving on Christmas eve and leaving New Years Day. Will there be issues with grocery stores and cabs on those days?
No. December is in high season so it's pretty much business as usual, holidays included. You didn't say which island you're staying on but the same holds true for all.
On STX most businesses will be closed on Christmas Eve afternoon and all day Christmas. Exception are high end restaurants.
On STT, businesses such as government offices, insurance companies, etc. are of course closed but there's never a problem finding supermarkets and convenience stores open.
Christmas Day this year falls mid week so there will be several cruise ships in port meaning that gift/jewelry stores will be open, taxi drivers will be working. For boat charter operators, beach concession operators and basically all those who work in the tourist sector it's another working day.
I should have been more careful about lumping all the islands under the same umbrella when I should have separated STT/STJ from STX in this respect. My bad!
Thanks!
St John is the location, and inquiring mostly about car rental places. After looking today, the dates *some* are closed are Christmas Day, Thanksgiving day, January 1, and July 4th.
January 1 is one of my days so I need to make sure all is good. BTW, my favorite rental place has no 6 passenger vehicles available for that week. Book early!
Sounds like groceries are a non-issue. 🙂
Thanks so much! I love this forum!
