Years ago my parents visited the island and enjoyed seeing this statue.
Mom would like any information that is available on the history of this statue and would appreciate a photo that she could paint to commemorate their visit and her 90th Birthday.

thank you

The statue was built in the 40s or 50s by the owner of the property, He had a huge crew build it and I believe it stood 40 feet. During Hurricane Hugo, it lost a hand. When he was contacted at his home in the states as to what to do about it, he said to lop off the other one so it would be balanced! He passed away and left the property to the National Park who now controls Peace Hill where the statue was. It fell down during Hurricane Marilyn and will not be rebuilt by the Park as it's not a historic structure in their eyes. Don't have any pictures of it for you, sorry.
