Can anyone advise as to where a well-behaved almost 3-year-old would be welcome for nice dinners on St. John, in the Cruz Bay area? We eat out often in some pretty nice places with our son, but I'm not sure if some of the places that get written up in the guidebooks would prefer not to serve us, but I'm also not about to eat pizza every night! We stayed in St. Thomas in Dec. and made a few trips over to St. John, and had a beautiful lunch at Ocean Grill, and everything was fine there. Are there other similar restaurants where parents can enjoy a great meal with a toddler without getting a lot of dirty looks?

We spent a week on St. John last November with our 1 and 3 year olds. We enjoyed a couple of good meals at Maho Bay - good, interesting food that changes themes each night and child freindly, great view, but no waiter service (pick up your food/drinks yourself, plastic tables and chairs). We also enjoyed Miss Lucy's - great food and you can eat outside by the water under the beautiful trees. We also enjoyed a meal at Margarita Phils in Cruz Bay too, although at lunch.

Anywhere in Coral Bay should be fine. For a nice meal, Aqua Bistro is wonderful, excellent steak, and we brought our three year old last year w/o any problems.

Have a great time!

I think you asked about Cruz Bay, right? The only place I have eaten in Cruz Bay is the italian one....and I can't remember the name...it's the one on the 2nd floor. Well, it's small, crowded, and super-loud...so a kid should fit in perfectly, so long as he stays in his seat. The food is really good there, as well. They do have pizza, but they also have many pasta and meat dishes which are very very tasty.

I can't imagine any restaurant not wanting to serve you! We are long past your situation - our only child is now 19 - but I certainly wouldn't mind any family coming into a fine restaurant with their young well-behaved child - HECK, plenty of ADULTS are far more obnoxious than any child!

My attitude is - go wherever you like! If your son is well behaved, he should be welcomed as any other well behaved guest - old or young!

ENJOY!

Keep in mind- Zozo's does NOT welcome young children. And, unfortunately, they don't tell you that when you make reservations.

I think that most other places would be totally cool though. You'll have to call ahead and make reservations at most "nice" places anyway so I'd inquire at that time.

Hi
Lime inn, Morgans mango, fish trap, rhumblines and the balcony, We have had young kids at and never a problem You might want to think about bringing some thing to keep them occupied if you have to wait for a table.

Cafe Roma is the Italian place 🙂

Meals there are HUGE so be prepared to share or have leftovers.

Yes! Cafe Roma...total brain fart there.

And, yes, meals are gigantic. Hubby and I shared the penne with vodka sauce. It was pretty perfect. If you get there a bit early for dinner you shouldn't have to wait. I want to say around 5, maybe slightly earlier if they're open before then. You can probably get a nice window seat and look out to the street below.

Their starter salads are pretty tasty, too...I think it's their balsamic vinaigrette.

Recently returned from St. John. We have a 4 yr. old and the family we traveled with have a 16 month old. Had great meal at Rhumb Lines and it was very child friendly. The owners daughter played Polly Pocket on the floor with our daughter. Have been travelling to St. John with our daughter since she was 11 months. Lime Inn is also great and have always been very nice to our child. The key for us is to go early before it gets really busy and crowded. I recommend Rhumb Lines and Lime Inn.

St. John is generally such a mellow place this question is better answered in the negative. The following restaurant are not particularly child welcoming:

Asolare
Stone Terrace
Chateau Bordeaux
Woody's
Zozo's
Tage

Others may wish to add to this list. Unless your children are exceptionally well behaved, it is probably not fair to other diners at these places either.

Try Compass Rose at Pastory Gardens...good food and friendly. Banana Deck is also good. One thing to keep in mind is that most of the upscale restaurants here have such eclectic menus that I would bet most kids wouldn't like anything on them. Oh and Cafe Roma is one of my favorites. The food is excellent and the portions huge...thats why we all say we go into a Roma Coma after dinner there:)
