I know I read this before on this forum & appreciated the FYI, so I thought I'd mention it again. While Cingular has no extra charges for use in US VI, if you use it on St John you may use a BVI cell and be charged for roaming. Between our 2 phones we has $35 in roaming & hardly used the phone. Make sure you check your bill! Of course they will take off the charges if you call & explain.
On our trip next week we are going to be spending quite a bit of time in the BVI. In order to avoid Boatphone charges I signed up with Cingular for their "world traveler" plan. The charge is $5.95 for the month and $1.99 per minute. This is considerably less than the charges we have incurred in the past with Boatphone and also using a landline phone to the U.S. I can cancel out at any time. I've never had a problem with Cingular in the USVI and have called from the North shore beaches and from our boat in Coral Bay. Cingular was very helpful and said that if I had any problems they would refund the charges.
