I am new to the board and have found some great information. However, I am wondering which is better, taking one of the charter boats from St John over to Jost or taking the ferry. Also, what day of the week is best to go, I will be there from Thursday until Monday and I just want to get away from it all and relax away from the crowds. All suggestions are greatly appreciated!!

Hello Amy,

Welcome to the board. If you don't want to be with a group/crowd then a private charter might be the way to go. How many people are you traveling with? Most private charters are 6 packs. Then again you could take the ferry and then do your own thing and find your quiet spot to relax once on Jost.

Thanks.

I think taking the ferry will be the way to go. Any suggestions on where to go once I get there?

Well, of course, you HAVE to go to Foxy's, Ivan's and The Soggy Dollar! If you didn't, it'd be like going to Florida and NOT eating an orange! Haha! But, there is a relatively new company that does some hiking-type excursions, with ATV's. I haven't used them before, but I have heard good things. Anyone else go on one of their excursions?

Hello Amy,

White Bay (which is where Soggy Dollar is located, along with some other restaurants/bars). If you enjoy walking you could do a bit of walking around the island.

Hi-

Lots of good advice here already.

I've gone to Jost on both the ferry and a private charter (where we rented a powerboat and captain for the day from Nauti Nymph). Because of the cost associated with this kind of charter, and the fact that you only want to visit one island, I recommend the public ferry as the best value. It's a 45 min ride to Jost and you'll have about 3.5 - 4 hrs on the island (after clearing customs). You can only go on Fri, Sat and Sun on the public ferry - which works for your days. Don't forget your passport.

Bun's Tequila Sea Taxi (495-9281) and Gregory's Brat water taxi costs $5 per person for local trips in a center console boat and Bun's (495-9281) - and George's land taxi (495-9253) costs the same for a trip to White Bay from the ferry dock (Great Harbor) - you may prefer to walk to White Bay for a little local color. Walking to White Bay from the ferry dock (in Great Harbor) takes about 20 minutes. Area code in the BVI is 284 (2=B 8=V 4=I).
