Hi, I'm going on a cruise on The Princess November 2nd. I will be visiting St Thomas on November 6th, from 7am-4pm. Since I've been to St Thomas & St John, I'd like to try another island. I've heard Jost Van Dyke is a great place to go. I'd like to visit Ivans/Foxys/Soggy Dollar bars while I'm there. I was told they were in walking distance of each other. I was wondering if anyone has suggestions of charters or personal boats to take us there. Depending on the price, there could be as little as 4 people going or we have 19 total in our group. They might all be interested in going. Some are cheaper then others, Ha Ha! Also, if you have any other suggestions, which might be better to do, please share. I'd like to sit on the beach and have some drinks with some great people.
Thank you, Sarah Robinson, Clayton, NJ

IMHO forget Jost, unless you're willing to waste a lot of time and $$$.

Also, The Soggy Dollar and Foxy's is really not in walking distance if you don't have a lot of time and stamina.

Being that you're only on STT from 7AM to 4 PM you really don't have much time to go to other islands. You probably won't get off the ship until well after 7 AM and you need to be back at least a half hour before the ship sails.

Best bet....try a beach on STT.....Megans, Coki, Sapphire (Coki is our favorite) or try St. John via the ferry and visit Trunk Bay, etc. (but be forewarned, you'll lose a lot of time getting to and from St. John).

Have a good visit.

Can you tell me why you prefer Coki?

Megans charges $4. each and is usually crowded when the cruise ships are in. It's a nice beach, but Coki is better.

Coki has that tropical island feel........there are the food concessions on the beach that one expects to see in the Caribbean. Plus beach runners to serve you the cold drinks. Also, snorkeling is good....lots of fish.

Sapphire is nice, but with the restaurants & bars closed....well, there is only the beach and for cruise ship passengers without coolers & food it is, IMHO, a drawback.

btw we're from the Jersey Shore.

I can get to Atlantic City, Philadelphia or Wilmington, DE in about 30-40 minutes (traffic?). We're right in the middle of South Jersey.

You may want to consider a private daytrip like the Fury: http://www.usvisailing.com/

Capt Mike is great and if you day a full day you could probably do Christmas Cove or have a great time at Water Island.

Just an option

We're 60 minutes north of AC.

Have you ever used Spirit Airlines out of AC? We've used them three times to STT.

I've used Spirit Airlines to Orlando once and my sister is using Spirit to get to Ft Lauderdale in November for this cruise.

I thought when giving locations in NJ - one always referenced which Exit off the Turnpike.

😀 😉 😀

Me I go to Exit 4 on NJTP more often than I would ever like to

But really don't you think a private day sail would be a good option?

Tom:

They're on a cruise ship for 7 days.........why would you want to get on another boat for a day sail when you can explore the island? Also, most day sails return at 4 PM...a little late for snjmom.

Mike Coyle (Fury) does run a good day sail.......his sunset cruise is very nice, as well.

I've done the Cruise Dock to STJ/Trunk Bay and return....we always felt rushed and concerned that we would miss our ship....and Mrs. F.I. was upset since there wasn't any time left to shop at Havensight (lucky me).

It sounded like she may have a big enough group to charter the boat and then set the course and the times
I recommended Fury because it is on that side of the island to keep logisitics down.

I was not speaking of the normal cruise ship day sail

I am not sure I would compare a Morgan to a Cruise Ship, but you are correct they both float - of course IMHO

But we started with snjmom trying to get to JVD
Some type of boat would be required
I think a CA to JVD run would make for a very long and stressful day

I don't go near the GSP or NJ Turnpike too often. Only when traveling. I couldn't even tell you which exit I am. I usually use Route 295 when heading north.

Check out borntorhumb.com. Captain Kevin is highly recommended on alot of forums. We have gone with him twice and we've had a ball. He can take out 12 and either you can set your own itinerary, or he will take you where he knows are the best sponts. He's a great guy, his boat is fast and he's extremely reasonable.
