I have heard, but have not been able to comfirm, that the ferry from Charlotte Amalie to Cruz Bay will be running on a reduced schedule in Oct. I was wondering if this was true since we arrive in STJ on Oct 1 and were planning to use this ferry. If true, does anyone know the times it is running? Thanks much.

Hi UF Prof.

The ferry between CA and CB will supposedly run on a reduced schedule the rest of September and all of October and November. The schedule was to be reduced to a morning, midday and late afternoon trip to coincide with daily commuter schedules. You might call and ask about the specific dates/times you need. I don't know how the schedule will be divided so you may have to call both Transportation Services (340-776-6282) and Varlack Ventures (340-776-6412.)

That was what I had heard. Glad to know for sure before I get there. Looks like we will have to catch the Red Hook ferry. Thank you.

Also, something else to think about... if you crowd into one of the vans waiting to fill up with passengers you may have to hopscotch your way across the island stopping at various hotels, etc dropping people off as you go. If you want to get to Red Hook to catch a specific ferry time and you've figured out with your flight arrival that it's going to be close then tell the man who asks where you are headed (he'll be there when you walk out with your luggage to the curb area) that you'd like to know how much a private van would be for just your group to take you straight to Red Hook. We had 4 and it was 90 to take us directly there and we made our ferry by only 10 minutes so we definitely would have missed it had we either waited for the van to fill or had to make stops along the way. I also understand there is a private taxi service that many on these boards use that charge a flat rate to take you to Red Hook and then include your round trip service back to the airport when you are leaving for about 40 a person, I think. Just FYI.

another thought is that most reputable hotels and villa rental companies have a service that will greet you at the airport and shuttle you to red hook.
