Okay indulge me. I know the idea is to get away, but I am still leaving my two small children back at home with my sister for our long weekend away.
This mama would feel better if I knew what sort of cell service I could expect.
Also we will have to try to get in touch with our airline the day before to get on confirmed standby for a direct flight.
My carrier is AT&T formerly Cingular.
AT&T has the best coverage on STJ (I receive on the beach at Maho you will be pleased to know :)) although when I am driving the North Shore Road there is no reception, but full coverage in town and in Coral Bay - although way out at Saltpond you will not get a signal either.
Just look though to see where your signal is coming from - if it say's something like BVI/???? or Boatphone you are getting the signal from the BVI's so huge charges there - just turn the phone off and back on again and you should be fine.

thanks pia! i hope my phone will tell me if it is picking up a bvi signal. that would stink to come home to a big bill.
Pia's got it right. I have Cingular/AT&T data card for my laptop and I get my single best signal and internet connection in Coral Bay. They put a tower in and it covers that region nicely. You do get some terrain masking due to the mountains, so expect some drops when you are driving. Your mobile will tell you if it is off the AT&T network. If you take or make a call while roaming it will cost dollars per minute.
