*What, if any, U.S. cell phones with "roaming" work in St. Thomas/St. John?
Are cell phones that access the U.S. available for rent? If so, where and what are the rates?
No rentals that I know of (doesn't mean they are not here, just that I don't know of any), but most Statside phones will work here (Sprint, Cingular, etc.). Call your provider and ask, to be sure.
Hello Margaret,
Sprint & Cingular work. What cell service do you have?
Genesis Communications rents cell phones (340)776-3811 by day or week.

We were just in Tortola and St. Thomas with Cingular. all calls are free to the usa if you can get a tower which is on St. Thomas. I do not think you can call a st. thomas number though. On Tortola the phone works on Nanny Cay but no where else.
AT&T doesn't work as well as it used to. If you have AT&T service stateside your phone will now show SunCom as your carrier in Puerto Rico and the VI. SunCom's coverage is not nearly as good as Cingulars.
If you have AT&T, and really are going to want to use your cell phone a lot in the VI consider changing out the blue AT&T sim for an orange Cingular sim. The cost is $25 to migrate from AT&T to Cingular. Doesn't seem fair and I have been aurguing with AT&T/Cingular about it, but that is the price you will have to pay if you want excellent cell coverage.
