Does the Island have cell phone service?

If so what carriers?

Thanks!

Rob

AT&T and Cingular have excellent service on St. Thomas and most of St. Johns. The plans are the same as what you get in the US. Free calls home!

$.49 a minute for Tmobile, uses the AT&T network, limite coverage on the island though.

Here is the link for T-Mobile

🙂

KAYZ,

Virgin Mobile worked great on St Croix. No roaming charges.

We have Nextel and it didn't work for us at all down in STT

Good luck!

In the past my Werizon service worked well from Coral Bay and not from Cruz Bay. From Coral Bay there wasn't a roaming charge but from Cruz Bay there was-go figure. Well just this past two weeks I was not able to get any signal roaming or not from Coral Bay, just static. Was able to call out from Cruz Bay and STT with roaming charges. Changing in June to Cingular. Their service seems to be more consistant from the islands. This way I can receive messages and calls without charges. Also they promised me that there would not be any roaming charges from the islands. Hope it will work from Coral Bay because that's where I spend most of my time.

According to article in today's VI Source ( http://www.onepaper.com/stthomasvi/?v=d&i=&s=News:Local&p=1105682418)

Currently five carriers provide cellular service to the territory's consumers – Centennial, Cingular Wireless, Sprint, AT&T, and Innovative Communications Corporation's Vitelcellular.

Enlightening article regarding quality of service (dropped calls and difficulty getting signals).

Were you on St. Johns island? We're heading there, have Verizon and wondered if it works there. Thanks!

Steve

FYI...the island is St. John (no 's').
I believe you will find Verizon is hit and miss depending upon location and system load since they 'borrow' access from the others. If you need phone access to call the mainland, I suggest you buy a phone card.

Hi,
We used our cell phone (verizon) on the ferry from Red Hook to STJ
and it worked fine. I don't know about roaming charges yet, waiting for bill. But we also purchased a phone card at Walmart. Good to have just in case.
