I was wondering if AT&T (formerly Cingular) charges international rates for calls made from my cell phone while on St. Thomas or St. John. I have checked and see that they have good coverage of the islands, but am not sure if they charge more. Does anyone have any info on this? I'm sure it's been posted before, but after reading through several pages, I didn't see anything.

Thanks - I'm enjoying my new found friends on the board very much! 12 more days til we're there! (I don't have a sophisticated countdown like Blu...)

Depends on your service. I have free long distance in the states so it is free long distance on the islands. They are part of the U.S. so no problem. If you don't have free long distance in the states than you won't have it on island. Your should be fine. Also I have free Cingular to Cingular (or now AT&T) minutes and that works the same on island.

I have verizon and in the states I can call long distance anywhere at no charge. Down in St. Thomas, calling either to someone in St. Thomas or back to the states it was .69 a minutes. I even got charged called USAir at their 800 number.

I have Cingular now AT&T and while in St thomas I have to problems with coverage. I also have their nationwide plan which covers the U.S, Virgin Islands therefore, I have no additional charges for long distance or roaming. Enjoy.

Cingular is the only way to go in the USVI

"Cingular is the only way to go in the USVI"

Lots of folks here also use Sprint.

I will post this again for newbies. Certain places on STJ we hooked into a BVI cell & got charged quite a bit per minute. Make sure you check your bill. Call them & tell them you were in STJ & they will take off the charges. No extra charges for USVI. Good service everywhere we went in STT & STJ. STX is another story. No service at Carambola where we stayed.

Carambola is a dead spot. No cell service of any kind. I assume because of it's location-in a valley surrounded by high hills. It's the only place - expect Cane Bay Beach - where I can't get service.

What are, if any the "dead spots" on St. John. I know there is a tower on Bordeaux Mt. Are there any others?
