Are there any fairly progressive Catholic churches on St. Thomas? We are staying
at Sapphire Beach and would like to go to Mass on Easter but are used to an inclusive
parish. Any ideas?
Mafolie Chruch, Sts. Peter and Paul Cathedral or St. Anne's in Frenchtown
I'm not sure what "progressive" means but the closest Catholic church to Sapphire is the Holy Family Church in Tutu which is about a 5-10 minute drive with no turns! A lovely church and, although I'm not a Catholic, I've been there several times and the congregation is very welcoming. Take a right out of Sapphire, stay on that main road all the way through Smith Bay. As you come down Cassis Hill there's a speed bump at its bottom, a couple of stores on the right and Holy Family is right there. You can't miss it and it has a big parking lot. For information on service times you can call 340-775-1650.
You're right. I totally forgot that one!
Thank You both!
Make sure your whole family dress in their Sunday/Easter best, not shorts with t-shirts or tank tops(vacation clothes).
Very good advice!
If you know what mass you will be attending at Holy Family. Church in Tutu or any other Catholic church on Stt arrive early to get a decent parking spot and seats. And again, just a reminder, wear your Easter best clothing, not vacation clothes. Enjoy and Happy Easter!
From visiting friends' experiences, reading several visitors' comments and via conversations with a couple of ministers and several regular church-goers, the congregations here fully understand that vacationers don't travel with their "Sunday best" clothes and are more than welcoming regardless of the attire worn. So on that point I have to disagree.
Ok, I will meet you in the middle. Maybe not their Easter best, but on the conservative side.
Pants and nice shirt for the father and sons.
Same for the mother and the daughters. Or a nice dress.
