Ok, we're leaving for STT in less than a week! I've never used travelers cheques before, should we get them, and are hey a pain? Would it be unwise to bring a lot of cash (that's what we usually do). Should we just rely on credit cards the whole time we're there?

Thanks in advance for your advice!

Our group just came back from STT last week. The majority of our group used cash and credit cards and a few had travel cheques. The cheques were accepted at the restaurants and on our catamaran day trip but so were credit cards. It is helpful to have cash for buying tshirts, trinkets and such at the market downtown and also getting a cold drink at the beach. I preferred to use my credit card and cash and it worked out fine. There are also ATMs at various spots around the island at banks and even at some the resort beaches like Saphirre Beach. My wife and I took about $500 cash between us and still came back with around $100. The downside is we haven't gotten our credit card bill yet.

Overall I would recommend using your credit card and cash. I had a small waterproof wallet similar to a zip lock bag that I put my drivers license, credit card and beer money in and kept it with me all the time, even while snorkeling. Whatever you do make sure you have plenty of financial resources. I have read many times on this message board to take half of the clothes and twice the money and I believe it is sound advice.

Hi Kasey,

We used our Visa Check Cards for almost everything. We went to the ATM a couple times to pull $100 each time just to have money for tips. I don't feel the Travelers Checks are necessary.
