Good morning! We will be traveling to STJ next month and will have 11 people with 3 of those being 2 1/2 and younger in car seats. Does anyone know if the vans have seat belts and can they accommodate car seats? How about the taxis? We will try to get to Charlotte Amalie for the last ferry but may need to head out to Red Hook. Thanks for any help!
You can call the Taxi Association that has the airport concession to inquire but if they don't, one can always hold child in lap and put the child seat in the luggage area. Good luck.
Hi ksvarkonda, thanks for your question.
Virgin Islands law requires that young children be restrained in car seat, and/or by seat belt. And passengers in front seats must wear seat belts. Taxis in the Virgin Islands can be a car, SUV, van or safari. The car, SUV and van varieties should have seat belts. The safaris are open air trucks with bench seating in the back and have no seat belts. There is a taxi stand at the airport with a dispatcher, tell the dispatcher you want to use your car seats.
With 11 people and little kids in your group you may want to look into arranging the airport transfer ahead of time so they are their waiting for you, no need to wait in line for the taxi dispatcher. Take a look at the Taxi Service page of the website, there are a couple taxis listed there - you can email and request a quote for your group.
