This may seem like really picky questions. I know it's an issue in our town, though, and I don't know whether it is anything to worry about in St. John.
Are there any spots that are particularly good for viewing the parade? How about the fireworks? How far ahead of time does one need to get there? (I know, I know. . .island time. . .but I just want to have some idea of the timeline.)
Thank you! This will be our first trip to St. Thomas and St. John and I have learned so much from all of you. You guys are great!
I can't believe I messed up the topic line on the first post! Sorry!
Hello Jo,
The parade route runs from the road by the National Park Visitor Center through Cruz Bay. You can get a good spot by Mongoose Junction. Some folks move around... walk down to the Village get something to eat and come back. The troupes move slow along the route.
The Fireworks - I usually try and get a spot right along the Cruz Bay 'harbor'.
For the parade, it starts at 11am, so getting there around that time is fine. No need to get there early in my opinion, you will get a spot to watch from.

Thanks, Islander! I'm glad to hear that, like everything else, the parade-watching routine sounds much more casual on St. John.
We have a big annual parade in our town and people stake out spots the day before by tying chairs together along the route. By the morning of the parade (which doesn't start til noon), the 2 1/2 mile route is lined with chairs! It's ridiculous!
