Thank-you

But aren't there different dates for St Thomas vs and St John?
This year St John's ended on July 4,, so next year it is in April? Or are these April dates just for St Thomas.
Want to be sure.
Thanks Pia for your help!
hi bahamamomma
these are two different carnival celebrations put on by two different organizations.
the "virgin islands carnival" is the main event, and it happens in the weeks after easter each year. it is on st. thomas and sees heavy participation from the other 2 greater us virgin islands, as well as the bvi, dominican republic, and through many who now call the territory home from other islands in the caribbean.
the st. john festival happens throughout june, with the culmination at the emancipation day (july 3) and independence day (july 4) dates. it's a coincidence that these dates come one after the other. emancipation of the slaves in the danish west indies was proclaimed july 3, 1848 and virgin islanders make it a double celebration.
the crucian christmas fiesta is on st. croix, and activities culminate in the spectacular ending with the big parade on three kings' day. this set of activities begins in december (with activities for weeks before the main event like the others) with competitions and showcases, and again, this is run by its own festival committee.
when you say virgin islands carnival, many of us (well, that would be me!) take that to mean the carnival that happens on st. thomas, considered the crown jewel of the three carnival celebrations.
