i will be arriving in St. Croix on June 14, 2008 staying for 5 nights at the Carambola Beach Resort. I have read mixed reviews. Can anyone give me any positive feedback? I will most likely rent a car as I have read that the resort is a little remote. I need suggestion on where to eat, beaches & snorkeling, grocery store, etc. I have booked a Buck Island Excursion & really looking forward to that.
Thanks!!
A "little remote"? It's out there on the North-West end...definitely rent a car. You'll see many of your dining/entertainment options on the coast once you get close to the resort...their options at the resort are great, too (don't miss the Caribbean show and feast!). VERY nice place! I was really impressed when I sold them a defibrillator (let's hope no one ever needs it!) and I had to go there to deliver and demo it. Beautiful. It enticed me enough come back for dinner!
We just stayed there about a month ago and had a great time. Excellent snorkeling on site. Ask at the front desk for directions to the tide pools. It's about a 45 minute walk to get there but it's a very interesting experience and beautiful.
Definitely, definitely, definitely rent a car. There is no where within walking distance and you don't want to get stuck at the hotel. When we were there they were having issues with service at the restaurant and we would have been miserable if we were stuck eating only at the hotel. Right down the street (maybe 5 minutes at the most) is Cane Bay which is great for snorkeling / diving and lots of good bars and restaurants (Full Moon Beach Bar, Bogey's, The Waves, Off the Wall).
Every time we go to St Croix we rented our car from Judi of Croix ( www.judiofcroix.com ) and have had great experiences every time.
Thank you very much for your response. I really appreciate it!! Looking forward to my vacation in St. Croix!! 7 weeks to go!
