We have some guests arriving in June and they have a 14 month old child. Staying on Water Island and may want to take a taxi to get around on St. Thomas a couple of days. Wondering.........would you recommend they bring the car seat with them? Or, can you arrange in advance a car seat with a taxi?

You might try Island Baby on St. John, don't know if they service St.Thomas. I think it is www.islandbaby.com Might want to do a search for them on this tread. Laura

Thank you cruisingal! Looks like this is a great service for St. John. Unfortunately, our guests will be on Water Island/west end of STT. But, really do appreciate the help. I have everything else they may need but not a car seat. I'll recommend that they bring their own with them. Thanks!

First is their child riding on lap or do they have a airline seat of their own? We have come to STJ several times with little ones. I would highly suggest that they get a plane ticket for their little one. Even the airline suggest it. If you were to hit unexpected turbulance it would literally be a life saver. We have gone with my youngest when he was 6 months and 18 months old. Each time we purchased a seat. Yes it was more expensive, but after all I am securing precious cargo 🙂 If you do this, then you can just use the same car seat you would bring on the plane. We actually went to Walmart and bought a $40 car seat that was faa approved so we wouldn't have to worry about his regular getting wet and ruined from all the beach hopping. I also know that some of the rental car companies offer car seat rental if the above suggestion is not an option. Good Luck!!

They should bring their seat, if they take it to the gate with them and there is an empty seat, the airline will often give the window seat to you for the infant seat and if not available then you can gate check it and you will have it for the taxi. They should let the airline know as soon as possible so they will hold that seat empty until they need to sell it.
