coming down in March, probably rent two cars rather than one large so different people can do different things. What are the best options?
companies and cars?

did you do something like travelocity to check the rates? What Island? How long? You can rent a van that seats 10. But there are not many companies that do that.

st. thomas, for at least a week, possibly working on more nights. just wondered if there are local reliable rentals rather than national chains.
Really enjoying reading this forum, learned alot and took notes - thanks to all for info shared.

JBM:

I rent from Hertz....and get a AAA discount of 10%.

I've tried a few local agencies, but could not get the deal that Hertz gives me.

If you plan to bring the vehicle over to St. John, via the car ferry, you must rent from Avis or Budget....Hertz will not let you bring it over.

Have a good trip.

btw...where are you planning to stay?

I second billd, I always check with Travelocity, they will compare all of the car companies so that you can pick the best rate for the car that you want. I've rented from Hertz, Avis and Budget and have found them all comparable. It's kind of become a joke for us whenever we rent a car, you will always find a few dents and scratches and when you go to report them before you take the car they never really seem to care much. I have yet to rent a car that didn't have some kind of ding in the bumper.

The original poster asked about local rental agencies rather than national chains. The ones that seem to get the best reviews here are

http://www.discountcar.vi/
http://www.dependablecar.com/

Actually you can find both right on this website, here:

https://www.vinow.com/stthomas/getting_around_stt/driving_stt/

I think Amalie Car Rental has also been favorably reviewed, but I can't find a link for it.

Easy now, Bill. I said the original "poster" who posted a second post asking
