Looking forward to our first trip to STX for a week in April. Can anyone recommend a reputable and reliable car rental company at a good price?

I always have used Olympic in Christiansted.Going back in June for the 10th time and will use them again. I have them pick us up at the airport and that way I don't have to pay for a transfer to the hotel with our vacation package. They will drop your car off at the place you're staying if you want that. They have decent vehicles. Sometimes you get a new one, sometimes you don't. A small car is all you need if there are only 2-4 people. If you use the 10% off coupon in the St.Croix This Week guide you can expect to pay about $30/day. I don't think you will find a better rate. If you use the agencies at the airport, expect to pay quite a bit more. Good Luck. I do think that you should rent a car right from the first day. When you start to use cabs it gets expensive.

Just made my reservation with Olympic - They seemed to have the best price. We are going to take a taxi to the hotel since we get in late the first night and don't want to learn to drive on the left side of the road after dark. They are going to pick us up at the hotel the next day. We are missing summer rates by one week so our rates will be a little higher than yours, but when you are a teacher, you take vacations when you can.
Thanks so much for the information. I get more excited about our trip every time I take care of another detail. Looking forward to exploring the island.

Which hotel are you staying at? I ask only because it may not be that big of a deal to drive to it from Olympic's office. Also if they pick you up at the airport, you do not have to pay a transfer fee or rent a taxi. The cost of getting to your hotel from the airport might be more than an extra day's car rental.

We are staying at the Divi Carina Bay Beach Resort. How hard would it be to find this place after sunset? ( Also considering that we have never driven on the left side of the road before) I don't want to stress my husband out right at the beginning of our vacation.

Yes it would be hard in the dark. If you must, find a taxi that will lead you and don't forget to tip/pay him/her generously.

I think we will just wait until Sunday to get the car. Olympic will pick us up at our resort.
