I'm looking for a place to rent a car from for a couple of days in St. Thomas. We are styaing at Sapphire Beach, so Budget would be the best, but neither I or my fiance will be 25 when we go on our honeymoon in May. It sounds like Budget will not rent to us. Is this true? Does anyone have their phone # (hopefully 800 number) for their location at Sapphire? We want to do some driving around the island trying to find secluded beaches, do we need a 4wd jeep? What type of vehicle would be the best, can we get away with a midsize car? If budget won't let us rent a car from them, who should I contact after that? Thanks

good afternoon brian
here's the number for budget at sapphire beach, and unfortunately it is not toll free.
340-779-2211. recently a friend had company on island and they were unable to rent because of the age requirement. seems you must be 25 or older....sorry, maybe you can find something once you arrive.

Hello Brian,

A mid-size or economy car will work on St. Thomas. A 4wd jeep isn't necessary.

Brian,

If you go to the St. Thomas Budget rental policy website: http://www.budgetstt.com/html/rental_policy.html you will see that they will rent to folks under 25 years old for an additional $10 a day. If you plan to do a lot of touring and dining away from your resort you'll most likely come out ahead of taxi fares even with the underage cost tagged on. You'll even get their big coupon book with discounts on many things throughout the island, I think they even show that on their website.

There's no need for anything fancy on the island. I always go for a compact level, but have in the past driven cars from the "economy" choices with no problem.

Hello Ginger,

Many of the car rentals, including Budget, have mini-vans, SUV's... larger vehicles in their fleet.
