Looking to rent a car for stay in St. John. Is it better to rent in St. Thomas and ferry it over or rent it from someone in St. John?
Also, if anyone has done any fishing while in St. John I'd be appreciative for any inof you can give.
Thanks, Jim
Hello Jim,
There are consistantly the same replies to your car rental question. Some say they prefer renting on St. Thomas and taking the car over to St. John because that way they don't have to catch a taxi, remove bags, take a ferry, remove bags... and some have said its cheaper/better deals on St. Thomas. Then others comment that they prefer 4wd on St. John (most St. John rentals are jeeps), like the perk some St. John car rentals offer of allowing customers to park in their Cruz Bay car lot (parking is limited in Cruz Bay) and like the security of having the agency on St. John should they need customer service (St. Thomas car rentals aren't going to come over for minor things - flat tire and say you locked your keys in the car it would of course take longer, more hassle to get that sorted out if you had to go over to St. Thomas or they had to come to you). No firm answer on this, its a matter of personal opinions.
Are you looking to go fishing on your own from the coast for example or do you want a guide/charter?

Thanks for the reply. I missed it until now.
Will take your advice re the car. Makes sense.
As to fishing I do it all. Fishing from the shore is just as fine for me as a charter fishing for bill fish. Charters will probably center around reef fishing as I have found out that the bill fish season is during the summer months.
Don't know wheter you will be able to pick this up due to the elapsed time between posts. thanks anyway
Jim
