Need to book our car now that we have condo!
Last year someone here have me a great code (I think Costco) and I saved a bunch of money on car rental.
Anyone have suggestions for this year?
I am interested in this also.
The national franchises on St Thomas are Hertz, Avis and Budget so I assume you could go online and see if any coupons/discounts of any kind are available? If you find something for Hertz just bear in mind that they don't allow their cars to be taken to St John.
Costco does offer coupons but they are not valid in USVI, I just called Budget in St. Thomas.
If you're a AAA member Hertz gives a 10% discount.
I got mine through AAA at Avis - I dont however recommend doing business with them. Great price, but pretty lazy staff. They wouldnt go with us to the car *(usually to assess preexisting damages) So we went, marked all the damages ourselves before we left. They are trying to say that upon return those damages were new, and that is not the case at all. Be VERRRRRY careful!!!

I always use Avis (so I can go to STJ via ferry) and never had someone go out to check the car with me and that includes Hertz as well and even Stateside. I can't imagine the agent going out with every customer to inspect each car. Can you just imagine the back up of customers trying to get their car!
They do give you a car diagram with any problems noted in the spot damage has already been seen. If, when you go out to the car you should be checking what they say is damaged and if anything is missing you go back to the counter and they will make the proper notation.
This last February the front "bumper" was slightly off kilter but didn't mention it. By the time I got to the hotel, it was hanging down (I duct taped it). Went to the Avis office at the Havensight office and explained the problem. The agent noted it in the record and did not come out to look at it. BTW the vehicle was right beside the office. The agent asked me if I wanted to exchange the car there would be no problem. I kept it since I do keep duct tape at all times. 🙂
When I returned the car at the airport, I told the agent in the lot (the one who takes your keys, etc) about the situation and that it was reported, he just said okay, no problem.

(Didn't know AAA gave a discount for Avis they do for Hertz)
Yeah we had the car diagram but it was not written on at all, so we filled it out ourselves and turned it in, but they are claiming thats new damages. Hopefully they are misunderstanding our form and let this go? Ill keep you posted. I havent gotten to speak with anyone yet. They just left a message that we have to replace the entire front end ? So I left them a message in return. We only drove to the super market, megans bay, and bolongo bay. There were no crashes or incidents that we were involved in.

Did you turn it in before you left the lot?
