Rent a car....you'll be glad you did!

Call June at Discount Car Rental...right by airport, great rates and every time we have rented their large Wrangler Jeeps they have been in good shape...tires especially.

People ask this all the time. It depends on a lot of things for different people. After going to St Thomas since '87 we rent a car now but we still like to take a taxi when going to certain places, or when we know we will dine and be out late, and or be drinking. We didn't always get a car at first either, sometimes we have airport transfrers and just chill out for the first day or 2 and unwind. Depending upon where we stay we sometimes only rent a car for a few days. If you think you will spend the daily car rental rate on a cab go ahead. Some days we let the car sit there, and I know we don't spend $45 a day on cabs every day. We also enjoy the taxi drivers themselves, their stories and insight, and for us it's part of the fun of our trip talking to locals who might have come from other islands to St Thomas.

Thanks kindly to everyone who responded to my question, my husband and I both like "take in" a new area and leave no rock unturned so to speak, I also take a ton of photos so I am taking your collective advice and renting a Jeep! Thanks again!

I would highly recommend you rent a car. We just got back from staying at the Elysian and were very thankful we rented a Jeep through Discount Car Rental. They were very helpful and priced accordingly. I would rent from them again without any doubts. I am big into taking photos as well, for this reason I cannot highly recommend enough that you would want to rent a Jeep. Also, be sure to rent from someplace that will let you take the rental to St. John because they have beautiful lookout places where you will most certainly want to take photos! Enjoy!

The published taxi rates , which each cab must have onboard state town to Elysian at $15 for 1 person and $10 ea. if there are 2 or more people. The list is also on this site on the drop down list under St Thomas above.
