What is the best rental place on St.Thomas? We want to take the car to St. John.

We used Amalie Rentals - family run business with airport curbside assistance. They hand you the keys to your vehicle (newer and nicely kept) before you even pickup your luggage. Yes, you pay a bit more for the service - but worth it to us. Vehicle is allowed to go to St. John.

I don' think avis permits the cars. Try National and Hertz. The small local agencies like Amalie do, as mentioned above. You can also all Harold, 340-690-4083. He rents locally and may give you a deal, if it is on the off season. Mention Bill D, from Crystal Cove and that may help.

Hertz does not allow cars over to STJ. Avis has a $1000 fee if they have to go over to service it or deal with it. talkintx hit it with Amalie, they are my favorite! No smoking in their vehicles, just so you know.

I would highly recommend Amalie. We have rented from them twice. They meet you at the airport when you arrive and both times we had our car before our luggage! The vehicles we rented (Jeep Liberty I believe) were very low mileage and very clean. On departure they met us curbside at the airport. We just pulled up in front of the airport and handed over the keys. Great service!

I found that Budget Rental Car has the cheapest rates for the dates we are traveling (in January) and their customer service department verified by telephone today that they allow the cars to go to STJ. They also have 3 locations on STT, including the airport and Sapphire Resort near Redhook Dock.

We are arriving tomorrow (Monday the 28th) and renting from Dependable Car Rental, run by a local St. Thomas family; they allow their cars to be taken over to St. John. they car highly recommended by friends who live in STT and use Dependable for all their visitors.

I agree - Amalie was the best for us! And yes, they were a little more, but having them waiting for us when we landed and then again when we arrived at the airport to return home- that was priceless! No hassles! Picking up rental cars have always delayed our excitement to start our vacation - but this was a totally different experience- our vacation started immediately!!! We even had a little fender bender with the jeep and they even made that experience easy - they just charged our credit card for the damage - sent us the paperwork along with pictures for us to forward to our credit card company - and the credit card company refunded the charge on our credit card immediately! I had no idea that our credit card would cover the damage- thanks to Amalie ! And Amalie didn't even push their accident insurance on us, so we didn't buy it, so we were kind of worried, so we called them after it happened and they said, "No worries, we will take care of it when we meet you at the airport for the car return- enjoy the rest of your trip." That was worth the extra money!

We used Dependable on our most recent trip. The staff was great, price was reasonable. Have rented from Avis previously. Both companies allowed cars to go to St. John, but no service would be provided there. Would use either again.
