Hello:

We are planning day trips to both STJ and Tortola.
Is it really necessary to have a car on these islands?
We would definitely like to see all the scenic sights-viewpoints- but is this managable with taxis?

Also in Tortola, is it best to take the ferry into Roadtown or the other end?

best

Take the ferry to the West End. Taxis can be used for island tours on both STJ and TT. Usually about $35.

You really do not want to rent a car for a day trip. I drove for a week and never got used to it. people pull up behind you on winding roads and start honking. My wife got sick in the back seat because I was forced to drive far too fast for the winding roads. The Taxxis do not go too fast and cost 1/2 what a rental will. plus you spend an hour renting the car and then 30 minutes checking it back in.
