We will be staying in St. Thomas the second week in November and plan to visit St. John's.
We will be renting a SUV for the week and want to take it to St. John's.
Please let me know how to accomplish this and what information i need to know.
Thanks for all your help.

If you rent from Hertz they don't allow their vehicles to go to St John (no "s" by the way!) on the car barge. All other rental agencies are fine but best to check in advance. If you go to the top of this page you'll see "ferry schedules" and if you click on that you'll get all the information about the STT-STJ car barge schedules and prices.

Although you can purchase the round trip ticket, the two operating car barge ferry operators don't acknowledge the other's tickets. Check both their schedules and, if in doubt, buy a one-way ticket so that if you miss a return barge you can buy a ticket to get on the next one operated by the other barge operator. It's really no big deal.

The ferry operators are well used to assisting visitors backing in so no worries there.

Hope this helps. Cheers and enjoy a wonderful visit!

You will SO love St. john that you'll want to stay as long as possible. DON'T miss the last ferry!!! They don't add one for those who are late and you'll have to park the car and take the passenger ferry back to STT (and pay the taxi ride and the risk of damage to your car overnight).

You're there for a week, so you should spend the first day or two on STT, then go to STJ so you can "re-shuffle the deck" on your priorities. While we really enjoy STT, we absolutely LOVE STJ and would gladly pay the car ferry fee every day to go to STJ for the amazing beaches and snorkeling. Lots of advice on this forum based upon what you like to do. What do you really want to do? Privacy on the beach? Snorkeling and see the amazing underwater world? Socializing with others on the blue Caribbean Waters? Need Bar, Restaurant, shower? Want to rent a Hobie-cat? Just tell us what you REALLY want to do and the great people on this board will point you in the right direction

Ferry is EASY to do (and around $50 round-trip) and worth every penny.

Sounds like your first time staying on the island. I also recommend taking the public ferry to Jost Van Dyke for the day on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. It's absolutely, positively worth the effort for a day-trip. PM me with any questions you have.

Have a great time!

Good Luck! Have Fun!
