It's almost winter in St. Louis, so mind (needs to) anticipate our next trip to the VI. We are trying to recruit about 3-4 couples to charter a sailboat/cat that is captained/provisioned for a 7 day trip to the USVI/BVI. We would prefer to leave from STT or STJ due to the ease of flying there. I would like to look to something NOT outrageous, in terms of expense, perhaps $1500/pp or so. Am I dreaming? Any suggestions?
LLBL: Have you had a chat with a crewed charter broker like Ellen Stewart? http://www.stewartyachtcharters.com/ Her business is to know the boats, the crews and match you up. There are a variety of price points in the charter biz.
We chartered a bareboat a few years ago with Catamaran Co. out of Nanny Cay, Tortola. I believe they also do crewed charters:

We had an absolutely wonderful time and recommend it highly!
This one looks pretty good for group your size. I've looked at the web site and met the captain, but I haven't tried it yet. I might soon for a small vacation....

Landlocked - I just happened to see this website the other day - 2 people for 4 nights/5 days is $2500 or $2800 if you want dinners on the boat. Its www.interlinesail.com Click on "crewed charters". I think it leaves out of Red Hook.
Thanks all - - I will check them all out! Gives me something motivating to do here at work 🙂
I've done this twice and it's great. http://www.sailingyachtvacation.com/ Curt and Victoria also
have a brokerage service to help you find the right boat. You can also check out www.vicl.org
(virgin island charter league).
