We just returned from STX and would like to warn anyone about the Cane Bay Reef Club. Do NOT stay there. We paid a deposit ($600.00) last year for the Penthouse room. This would be our third trip to STX (we had been staying in the Princess Area) and would go to the Cane Bay area several times during our previous stays so we decided to stay closer to that area this past trip. We knew we did not want to stay in any room other than the Presidential or Penthouse rooms (since they are in a building away from the restaurant and other rooms). We confirmed both with emails and even phone calls (3 of them) that we were booked in the Penthouse room. When we got there on April 21st, we were shown our room and it was NOT the Penthouse room. We told the manager that we booked the Penthouse room and she indicated that room was not available! We told her that we had written confirmation and that we had even talked to her and she still insisted that it was unavailable??!! Since we had no choice we stayed in the room we were given and it was awful. I killed 3 roaches that night as we were getting ready for bed. (We live in Florida so we are used to roaches but CLEAN places CONTROL them)
Nothing in the kitchen seemed to be clean and I would not even sit on the couch it was so dirty. The screen to the patio was all torn and not sure if it would keep anything out at all and the living room air conditioner was broke. Of course it got very noisy after the bar closed and the parking lot was right outside our bedroom.
We left the next day to find somewhere else to stay since we would be there for 9 more days and there was no way we would be able to spend another night in that room. We did find another place and returned to check out. We asked that we get our deposit money back and Sita (the manager) said the credit card machine was broken??!! We called a couple of times after that while we were still on the island and she always had an excuse on why she would not or could not return our deposit.
When we got home we called the credit card company (Visa) to dispute the deposit in hopes of getting the money back that way but it had passed the time limit for disputes to be filed. We then emailed Sita several times trying to appeal to their sense of decency and good business sense since we did not stay there nor did we even get the room that we had specifically requested. We have not heard back. Not even a "no" that they would consider it. We are now trying to find out if there is any agency (Consumer protection, Travel Bureau etc) in STX that might be able to persuade them to return the money to us.
So anyone considering staying at CANE BAY REEF CLUB......DON'T DO IT.
