It would be really pushing it. If you have no luggage (carry on only), your flight is on time but hopefully early, you are the first at the rental counter and hit no traffic - maybe. You can plan on 10 - 15 mins to deplane, 10 mins at the rental counter, 5 mins to get your car, 25 min drive to Red Hook (already at 50 mins) and keep in mind the last ferry of the day can be really busy so you would want to be there by 6:50 at the latest - you can see it would be pushing it. Sorry.

On a weekday I would think it impossible. On a weekend day only if everything works perfectly. Good Luck!

We are arriving at 5 p on July 8 (Sat), and trying to make the ferry over by 7 p - we're on American. I think we are going to try and "risk" it, but if we miss it, will there be a place we can "walk in" in STT for the night? First time to STT or STJ.

Windward Passage is right on the waterfront (340-774-5200) which would more than likely have available accomodation and be convenient for the Charlotte Amalie-Cruz Bay ferry. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the tip - I am REALLY hoping to make it to STJ Sat night!! Appreciate info from local, we'll keep that number. We are so ready, I've never been ready to get away for a week in my whole life, and it sounds like St John is the place to get away from it all - a few painkillers might not hurt, either!

Shannonh - mea culpa! The car barges of course go from Red Hook. not fron downtown, so you would still have to drive to Red Hook in the morning. However, I think Windward Passage would still be your best bet from a price and availability standpoint. Cheers.

Shannon, I am so glad I read your message - Even though I am arriving at 1:45 July 8 part of my group is on the same flight as you and until now I was not aware of the possible problem with getting over to St. John that day which as you know is very important. After looking over the ferry schedule looks like the only possible ferry is the 7:00 pm - Do you agree?

The last car ferry of the day is at 7:00pm but the last "people" ferry to STJ leaves at midnight from Red Hook so it depends if they are picking up a car to take over to STJ or if it is just them and luggage going to STJ in which case no problem 🙂

Yes, it looks like the 7p is the latest for the CAR FERRY is from Red Hook, we're renting from Avis in STT -- we're going to hopefully make it, if not, we'll try to place above and just stay one night in STT. Good luck! Thanks for the advice above!

Just need to adopt the No Worries mentality
http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=474245&an=0&page=0#Post474245 - for your review

Catch the ferry forget the car and get up in the morning and go back and get it.... Do a little shopping in STT for groceries.

No Worries - always tomorrow - is a life style - not a fault

Thanks Pia, I misunderstood, the rest of the group will only need the passenger ferry.
