Hello! I am soon moving to St. Croix for a job I managed to snag online. I've already told this company I will be there in two weeks to start. That being said, I am having trouble finding accommodation that I feel comfortable with before visiting the Island. I've been rather lousy with my money till late, but I've managed to snag a plane ticket only to have little left to my name after that. I don't want to throw the rest of my money away to a place I haven't yet seen, and I've had little luck finding a host for couch surfing or other similar services. My plan so far is to just hop on this flight, land, buy a bicycle from somebody I found on craigslist, and manage to camp out for a two to three week period, making do with little money until my paychecks start rolling in and I feel comfortable getting an apartment. I have little experience camping, and while I hate to say it, I suppose I'll be homeless for a few weeks. I've tried to research camping on St. Croix and it seems that there are many rules and not many campgrounds... Does anybody have any campground recommendation? Are there any dangers on the island, whether it be hunters, bad weather, crime, or predators? Also, if no campgrounds, could I possible hop around in the woods for a few weeks without any trouble? Maybe some beaches I could camp next to for a while? And also; are there any showers on any beaches? Or where could I shower and make myself look presentable without any hassle?

This is such a very bad idea all around but in any event you should post on the relocation forum, not the travel forum (see link under travel forum header top of this page). There's a ton of information there on relocating in the pulldown menus top of the page. My best advice to you is cash in that ticket and, before even thinking of moving to anywhere with which you're unfamiliar, do some research and then save some money. Riding a bicycle anywhere in the territory is hazardous and camping on any beach is strictly prohibited - and dangerous. If those people offering you a job can't help you get set up then there's another huge red flag.
