Anyone give me inside info on which is better....I've seen Cinnamon Beach...but don't know much about Maho except what is on their web site. Looks like they are the same price on cottage at Cinnamon...compared to the eco-tents at Maho Bay around $95/nite. I think Cinnamon has electricity in the cottages...not sure about the ones at Maho Bay.
Can't decide which one to stay at in November.
I think it depends on what you want.
Maho has electricity in their cottages. I actually think the Cinnamon Bay beach is nicer. But, I don't think the campground is as nice as Maho. This is my personal taste. I like the fact that the Maho tents are each individually standing, with 4 sides open to the breezes...and are up on the hill, so you're more likely to have a little view and breezes. I also like the wooden construction of the Maho cottages better. They look more "tropical" to me.
Cinnamon doesn't appeal much to me because the cottages are square, cement structures.....two sides cement, two sides screen. There are 4 cottages together, sharing walls, so you can't sit out on your little patio in privacy if your neighbor is also out. Also, they sit on a common walkway....so if you have a Cinnamon cottage close to the beach, the other cottage renters will walk by your cottage to get to theirs or back to the beach. This could cause lots of traffic in front of your cottage. Really, what disturbs me about Cinnamon is the cement walls...I can't imagine being inside something that might feel like a bunker - while I'm supposed to be camping on the most beautiful island in the world. Now, if a hurricane comes, I'd probably want to be at Cinnamon!
I also wonder about the breezes in the Cinnamon cottages. Do the breezes come through the two screen walls? I hear there are no ceiling fans at Cinnamon, so I wonder how hot it gets in there. If you aren't up high and you're behind lots of foilage, I can't see how you'll catch any breezes.
I would love to hear from someone who thinks Cinnamon is better than Maho...just to know why and to feel better about maybe going to Cinnamon one day. Like I said, I think Cinnamon's beach is superior....so camping there is attrative. Actually, tent camping is a very attractive option at Cinnamon. My only problem with Cinnamon are those bunkers (cottages).
I vote for Maho. We've been there 3 times and visited Cinnamon Bay several times while we were at Maho. Cinnamon is flat, easier if you don't like stairs to the beach but I thought the tents, which were true tents looked awful and the cement little buildings looked non too inviting. However, their dining room looked okay, its slightly closer to town, seemed friendly, again no stairs if you hate climbing them (which you'll do constantly at Maho) , had some rental water stuff like Maho but overall Maho had a far less commercial feel to it, more privacy in the tent cabins and an awesome dining area, views, and very decent store. Keep in mind that you don't go to either place to sleep late. We won't stay at Maho again as last time it was very noisy at night with school groups and the staff could have cared less about 6th graders raisin' heck at midnight. Both aren't places for the best night sleep but both have great beaches, better prices than a hotel and are for people who like funky, not civilized rooms.
