Can anyone tell me why I can't dial the area code 340 from the US and get through. We have Packet 8, is that the problem? I have been trying for week and half to call this exchange without success. C/S just doesn't exist anymore.

No idea and don't know what "Packet 8" is but I make and receive calls VI/mainland with no problems at all. Have you called your long distance operator?

Is it possible that the number you are calling is out of order?

Yes, called Packet 8 (internet based) without success. Tried "O" said it should work. Tried "411", no luck. Just thought I would see if anyone else had a problem. I thought maybe it was my internet service, but no it isn't. Do you just dial a 1 before area code as that is what I am doing without luck. Just get a busy signal on all 340 numbers. Thanks.

Whatever it is, it must be on your end. I call and get called daily without problem.

You might try calling a number that is known to be working. Try the number for Plaza Extra or K-mart.

I sent you a PM on this last night. If you tell us where you are trying to call maybe we can help with an updated number.

That sounds strange - 340 is just like dialing a US mainland number. The packet 8 people might connect through an access method that hasn't opened dialing to 340 area. You should call them and open some kind of maintennacce report - tell them that you can't dial whatever numbers. Give them complete numbers as examples. Otherwise, maybe you can try to dial around the block using a 1010 code. I don't know any of the codes, but I know this can work to resolve issues when you own phone access company has a problem (or their partner company). I bet you can google the codes - just google "dial around phone codes". Be careful about which one you use, so you don't incur hefty fees $ from those that impose such. Here's a fairly comprehensive link. It might be best to stick with the names you know .

I also don't know if the codes will work with your VoIP service. Let us know. I know that AT&T has a switching station on STT - 1010288.
