I have searched thru the forums and would appreciate some experianced travels help. I have been on the island 2 months and will be travelling home in a few weeks.

2 questions.

1. I understand the 6 bottle rule when traveling back to the States from St. Thomas. Can anyone give me a link or information on how much the tax is on liquor if you for example buy 12 bottles?

2. I understand airports allow you to check your bottles as luggage free of charge, however if i bought 12 or 18 bottles and had 3 seperate 6 pack cases would do they charge after the first free checked liquor bag?

From what I've determined, after asking several airline personnel at the airport....... they will check one six pack box per passenger free of charge (American, United, Delta & U.S. Air). In any event, it is highly suggested that you contact your airline to be sure about their rules.

After going through airport security there is a liquor store inside of the terminal where you can purchase more liquor to carry on the plane. But be aware that most airlines allow only one carry-on bag (box). I've noticed that they charge about $5 more per bottle than outside the airport. Also, be sure that you will not be required to leave the security area of an airport on your way home, since they will not allow you to re-enter with the liquor.

Don't know about Spirit Airlines, since they're a goofy airline.
