Hi Islander--
I saw a post below from someone named Grayson asking about soy products etc. on St. John. I am a vegan and am considering a move to St. John as well and and am wondering about the availability of soy products, natural foods, etc. on the island. How well stocked are the grocery stores? Or will I have to travel to St. Thomas and visit the larger markets there?
Thank you.
I am not familiar with soy so when I go to the grocery stores I have paid attention to therre avialability. I am going to see about looking in the St. Thomas grocery for the availability.
As far as vege foods - yes there are quite a few vegetarian people in the USVI. Some don't eat any red-meat, some only eat fish and ground foods, some only eat chicken and fish. Some don't eat any animal products at all. And they are able to find what they need. There are natural food stores on St. Thomas, I would imagine St. John would also have such a store - but I am not positive.
However it is not uncommon for St. John residents to make monthly shopping trips to St. Thomas, because things are more avialable, a bit less - because we have K-mart and other large stores and to buy in bulk and take it back with them on the ferry. This is not a will I have to do this.... it is a common practice. There are grocery stores in St. John though for you shopping needs so it is not a must to travel to St. Thomas.

Katy Lady and another place in Market Square have soy products and vegetarian delights. That's STJ.
