We will soon be visiting St John for a week with our family & our son's long-time girlfriend. He wants to get engaged while on the island, but was not sure whether to purchase the ring in the states or try to get one in St Thomas/St John. I am concerned about quality and whether they would be able to size a ring in time. He has done some research at a few stores here and knows what he wants. He has about $2,000 to spend. Can anyone recommend a reputable store or help us decide where to buy it? Thanks!
My husband purchased my engagement ring at Imperial on St Thomas (Charlotte Amalie). My mother-in-law helped him (of course). She has always purchased at Imperial on St Thomas while visiting St John.
Its a freakin' madhouse, though. Go when there are the least amount of cruise ships visiting.
We have purchased several times at Cardow in Charlotte Amalie. They are on Main St after the post office on the corner. We were just there in Aug and were delighted with our purchase. You can barter with them and will get a very good price. Their selection is outstanding and the stones so beautiful. Another favorite store is Dazzler's/Dynasty in Havensight by the cruise ship dock. They have several store's there and their prices are great. They will also come down on their price. Happy Shopping!!
BTW-----your ring can be sized in 1 to 2 hrs.
Is there tax?
No sales tax and approximately 30-50% savings from U.S.prices....can't go wrong no matter which store you choose.
