My husband and I will be staying in a private home on St. Thomas and we were hoping to stock it with beer, wine, and liquor. Does anyone know if we can purchase alcohol at the duty-free shops on the island and take it with us to our apartment to consume while on vacation? Also, any recommendations of stores on the island with the best prices for Absolut, wine and beer are appreciated.
You don't need to buy at the duty free to get the best deals. At almost any liquor store you'll see great prices on many things. I would suggest AH Riise. they have a huge selection of liquor but I don't believe they have beer. Beer isn't actually priced too great down here but the liquor deals are outstanding. You mention absolut, last year I bought it for roughly $8 dollars a bottle. I don't drink wine so I can't really tell you anything about that.
Thanks for the information! Hopefully $8 is still the Absolut price, as that's great deal. Is there a local Virgin Islands beer that we should know about?
Typically K-mart or Cost-U-Less would be even better on prices for liquor than A.H. Riise...also for beer and wine, but the prices on beer and wine here are comparable to Stateside prices...the liquor sure is cheap, though! Yay! You can buy as much as you want, but you can only return to the States with 6 liters of liquor (per person), duty-free, as long as one of them is bottled in the VI (like Cruzan Rum).
Thanks Marty. Could you please tell me where K-Mart is located on the island? We'll be flying in and renting a car so it would be great to stop there (and/or Cost U Less) on the way to our apartment.
Carib and Presidente are the Caribbean beers.

Don't forget Red Stripe from Jamaica. The original Caribbean Beer.
Carib is made in Trinidad and Presidente is made in The Dominican Republic.
