*Greetings from Virginia...
I'll be visiting St. Croix during 21-31 May and am interested in butterflies. Are there butterflies on St. Croix? If yes, what are their host and feeding plants? Where is the best spot to see/photograph them.
I can't wait to visit.
Warm regards, Karon Hardy
Hello Karon,
There are butterflies. I am not sure where to recommend seeing them or photographing them on St. Croix but certainly try the Botanical Gardens and ask the folks there.
The catepillars in the VI like to eat the frangipani leaves and they do it yearly; they completely strip the tree. You can see a picture of them at

You might want to contact the St. Croix Environmental Association at http://www.stxenvironmental.org/ to see if they can answer this for you.
and let you know what I find out. I'll even make a posting after I get over there, to let everybody know about.

Joanne and Islander, thanks for your help...... Karon
Hello! I just returned from a wonderful 10 days on St. Croix visiting my son. We stayed so busy SCUBA diving that I didn't get an opportunity to explore the many other interesting aspects of life on St. Croix. If I get an opportunity to return, I'll certainly try to fit butterflies into my experience. I did see a few while I was there.
Warm Regards,
