We're heading to St. John next week for our honeymoon! 🙂 I've read some posts about noseeums and other little biting bugs and was wondering if they are out this time of year. If so, what do you do to keep them from biting? Thanks so much!!

I don't think they ever go out of season!!! Take along some repellent containing "deet". We also try leaving the beach by early to mid afternoon before the heat of the sun drives the little critters out of the hot sand.

Hello,

There are no see ums on the beaches. They often are not around when its hot (during the daytime). They come out often in the late afternoon and when its rainy. I actually have experienced them on St. John only a couple times and it was about 4:30-5pm. On St. Thomas also around the same time and during the day when its been raining or overcast. Mosquitoes also come out more when its rainy or has rained recently - they are attracted to stagent fresh water. If you are camping on St. John mosquitos sometimes can be a nuissance.

Kurts suggestion is good, bring along some bug repellent if you want to stroll in the afternoons along the shore. Or pick some up at the local store if you find you are getting bitten.
