Hi! Well, February is around the corner, but christmas is at hand...so I have a list of island things for people to get me to use when I am on St. John.
Is a bug tent needed for my bed when staying at the Eco Tents?
If so, where can I get one?
What else may be needed?
Thanks!
Dean-O
I'm assuming you're talking about the tent cottages at Maho. I'm also assuming that by "bug tent" you mean what I think of as a mosquito net. I don't think you'd need one. We've stayed at Maho a few times, most recently in March. The tent cottages are well-screened. What I find essential there is a flashlight and a combination lock.
We got back two weeks ago and this time stayed in the tent cabins on the Concordia side. You don't need nets but be prepared to spray yourself heavily with OFF. Due to the rains recently, this year's bug crop was awful- mostly no-see-ums I think that did stay in our cabin, despite our diligent sweeping and shaking out of sandy towels etc. Also, you definately need the flashlights. Concordia will lock up your tiny valuables like passports and those cabins already have padlocks. The tent cabins at Concordia are very dark with poor lighting so bring a reading light if you need one. Also extra batteries would be good. Bringing papergoods such as kleenex is helpful if you want to save a little money. The store at Maho is well stocked however if you're staying on the Maho side.
