HI everyone,
I'll be visiting STT in November for 8 days, and am looking to rent a car for trips around the island as well as day trips to STJ. I also want to take a few boat rides, the Ecotour kayak trip, and other tours. I noticed Budget has coupons for some of the things I wanted to do, but was wondering if the coupons had unreasonable restrictions, such as only you can only redeem thecoupon on the odd Mondays of the month, between the hours of 2 and 3 A.M. or some other nonsense.

IN your collective opinions, are these coupons a selling factor, or should I head elsewhere for better service?

If you go to the St. Thomas Budget website you can find copies of the coupons. You can decide for yourself if you want to take advantage of the coupons. The one time I rented from Budget I used a few coupons, but found equally good coupons for some of the attractions in the various tourist books at the airport.

I don't know how to create a link here, but this is the url for the website:

Thanks...the coupons seemed good, but the backs of them are not visible, so you cannot see the "restrictions."

I will check out the airport then! Thanks!

In my opionion I'd pay full price for the activities before giving Budget at STT another penny. Pick up the brochures at the airport for another coupon source and get the vehicle elsewhere. I highly recommend First Truck & Car Rental. (Phone 340-776-3730. Address 15 Lindberg Bay.) They are located less than 5 minutes from the airport and were extremely helpful. We will definitely be using them again on our next trip. Their vehicles can also be taken to St John.

Jamie, The Budget coupons are great! If you intend on boat trips you will save over $200! I recommend checking the rental car prices via expedia, travelocity...vs. the budget vi site. We got a better rate doing that. I recommend these two boat trips. A day sail on the Nightwind. Steve is the captain and is super nice. With the coupon two of you can go for $100. Also I recommend going to the British Virgin Island with New Horizons II. I believe it was about $200 for the two of us but they had a coupon in the book. These trips include some food and drink. The New Horizons II is a motor boat...fast....and they take you to the Baths, the Jose Curveo island, Jost Van Dyke, etc. The lunch at the Jose Curveo island is pricey but get a "rodie"...they are a tastey wrap with curry, chicken and potatoe. You will need a passport for the British Virgin Islands and they do charge $20 entrance.

We also recommend the Bluebeard's Beach Club. You can find great rates on expedia. And I have called hotels.com to match their prices. This place is about $100 a night for a studio room with a kitchenette. The beach is rocky but you can snokel it. The pool is good and has a swim up bar. The resort has some late 1980s looks...tennis court is dated but they have been updating things for the last 3 years. We are planning to go back in Dec.

We like Bonnie's Restaurant at the Elysian.

I recommend getting the car and taking day trips to:
-Coki beach - near Coral reef place, kind of touristy but you can get the fish to come up to you and feed them
-Megan's Beach - on St. Thomas, they do charge a couple of bucks but it is world famous
-Take the car ferry to St. John - Go to Cinnamon Bay...they have a nice beach and the campground on site has cheap food and drinks.

Go to Bluebeard's Castle and eat at the Banana Grill...great view....food is good.

For the best gourmet food on the island the Farm House. The price fix menu is pricey but a some of the best food in the world! I have been to France & have dined at 5-stars ...this place is top quality. Great wine list. Splurge with the cost saving areas I've told you about.

Also for groceries don't go to Publeo in town. It's sort of shaddy looking. Take the main road towards the Red Hook (ferry) and there is a large building on a sharp turn...an unmarked grocery. Ask a local for help with better directions.

Email me if you need more information!
