I have heard one horror story from someone (indy) who has had a bad experience renting from Budget on STT. Anyone else have any problems with them? We will be renting a Jeep and taking it to STJ. Someone has probably had a bad experience with every car rental business so I know not to go by one story. Anyone else have any problems with their vehicles, service, etc.

I decided to rent on STT because we will be spending the last 2 days of our trip back on STT and we also have a 5 year old and it just sounded like a heck of a lot less trouble to get the car at the airport.

Thanks

The AC went out on my car; I was staying on the west end and wanted to change cars nearby, but they insisted on taking it back to the airport. I was VERY annoyed and did not want to waste my time doing that. When I returned the car, I complained and they automatically deducted 20%.

In short, not good service, but not terrible.

This time we rented from Hertz because we were not going to SJ; car was a little better, but none of the cars seemed to be to us standards.

I thought maybe this info would be helpful to others. I compared Budget and Dependable Car and decided to go with Dependable Car. For 11 days budget was $613 and Dependable was $633. But Budget charges an extra $5/day for a second driver so that would have added on $55 for us. Dependable has no extra charge for a second driver. Budget said that we were not allowed to take the top off of their soft top jeeps but Dependable said it was OK. Both offer comperable support on St. John. They will come over for mechanical failure but not for tires, batteries, etc. So there were no major differences (except for the top thing). Budget might even be a little cheaper for one driver. They do have a great one week rate of $349 (I think) but after a week they charge $66/day. That doesn't make any sense to me but so be it.

Hope that helps someone.

Region Rat's
15 days for $386 versus Dale at 11 days for $633
How did you get such a low rate?

That rate can't be for a 4 wheel drive vehicle. That rate even sounds low for a regular car. We need a four wheel drive because of where we are staying. I'm assuing that Regions Rat's is renting a small compact car.

Dale,

That rate is for a compact car, sorry for the confusion. I did a lot of shopping on line and must have hit Budget on the right day to get this rate.
