Does anyone know if the Buddah Bar on St. Thomas is still open? If it is, is it ok to eat the sushi? Looks a little shady!

Thanks,

It's still there...but Beni Iguana's absolutely blows BB away...NJMO...(Not Just My Opinion)...I mean, sure you can eat at BB, nothing to worry about at all...but many visitors claim that Beni's is the best sushi they've ever had...don't miss the mussels appetizer! WOW! (I was there last nite)

Justin,
You are right! lol! Looks shady! MANY years ago, I had dined there (different restaurant then) and it was great! Now, I drive by and wonder! I have heard good things on the forum tho. Marty is right about Beni's, tho I am told that Indigo's now blows Beni's away!

Is this Buddah's as you're driving to Red Hook is on your left??? All I have to say is...oh my.

Although I'm use to the Keys and the way the buildings look ouside compared to what they look inside, this looks a little needy of a big repair job?

Hey Sherri 😀

We have been to BB a couple of times in the past couple of years. Had a great time and the food was wonderful. Staff was very attentive. And I didn't think it was seedy at all.

Their sign now says "Buddah Sushi." And as I recall the place was previously a day care center.

I remember seeing The Buddah Bar for the first time and also thought it was NASTY looking in the daytime. Much more interesting after dark. A local friend suggested an evening there for dinner and we were more than wary of it. BUT - it's a completely different scene inside - very nice (& we're "foodies") - and the food is pretty awesome. Beware, however, of the costs. We ordered much food - different sushis and sashimis and a few very interesting & gorgeous appetizers - and we walked out with a bill of nearly $225 for just 3 of us. Yeah...OK....we drank alot, too! HA! But, if you are going to be primarily in the Red Hook area, don't miss it if you like sushi.

I have been to Buddah Bar and the sushi is good...haven't been there in almost a year now so it may have changed. I would recommend Buddah Bar over Benni Iguana's any day. I went to Benni Iguana's one time and one time only. It was by far the worst sushi I have ever had. The chef...if you would call him that didn't know how to cut the sashimi. Further the rice was not cooked correctly and was falling apart. Finally I know this is St. Thomas and service is most of the time slow...however when there are only two other tables and your waitress never comes to the table?!! On the way out a lady asked how the food was and I told her it was the worst I ever had...little did I know it was the owners wife!!!

The best sushi on island though is Shinsen!!! It is located at Indigo Restaurant. Katie is the owner/chef and knows what she is doing. The atmosphere is great, service is great, sushi is outstanding. Be aware that is difficult to get in because they only have maybe 12 tables and on the weekends it is packed. I tried to go this past weekend around 8 and they were full for the night!!! Check it out!!

Thanks for all the advice...

We did stop by Buddha Sushi one night last week but they were closing when we got there. I still think it looks a little dirty so I didn't want to eat there anyway...

I've always done well at the Buddha bar. Indigo has great sushi inspired dishes. Will try the Sushi place at megans point next trip. Heard good things.
