Does anyone of any information on 3 hour Buck Island Sail & Snorkel Tour on a 65 foot yacht? This is a tour our cruise ship offers (Carnival "Paradise") 5/2/02.
The only Buck Island I know of is the one off St. Croix. I do not know how they will have enough time to sail over and back and still have any time at all to Snorkel.
We have been to St. Thomas before and snorkeled Coki Beach and St. John Trunk Bay.
Looking to do something different. Any suggestions I would appreciate it.
Thanks,
Shay
Ah, but there IS another Buck Island, and it is close enough to sail to and snorkel in the time alloted. The critters that are common there include stingrays, bountiful bunches of sargeant majors and my favorite-garden eels. There are several bays on Buck and Capella Islands (next to each other) and both are deserted except for a navigation light...This is where the Atlantis Submarine goes too, which is fun to watch!
Thank you for your responce to this.
What side of the Island is Buck Island on?
Can you tell me how would Sapphire Beach or Secret Harbor compare with Buck Island. Which would be the best one to snorkel at?
Thank you,
Shay
We are headed back to St. Thomas this coming weekend. Can't wait! My very first snorkeling experience was to Buck Island from St. Thomas several years ago. It was from a Royal Caribbean cruise ship, but is probably the same tour. It was WONDERFUL. We snorkeled with sea turtles and so many fish. I can certainly highly recommend this tour. We have since been to Trunk Bay on St. John's and snorkeled in Kauai and I believe the Buck Island snorkel tour is one of the best!! Our only complaint: we could have stayed out there all day, but, alas, had to get back to the cruise ship.
Lucky you to be going this weekend. What tour are you taking this time? Are you going on a cruise? We still have a couple of weeks to go yet.
Sounds like a really good spot to go. We love to snorkel. We are lucky living in Florida we get to go to the Florida Keys at least 1-2 times a year when we are not on a cruise.
I know what you mean that is the only down side to the tours I would rather spend all the time in the water but you do have to leave.
Buck Island is off the south side of St Thomas. The thing that is nice about it is you have to go there by boat- so although there will be other boats- you still will feel like you have the place to yourselves. If you want to do a 1/2 day there, you would have another 1/2 day to do something else. If you take a taxi to Secret Harbour, you will probably make a day of it. I don't think there is a "best" place to snorkel, only different places!
