I will be in St. Croix for a week. Buck Island looks like a fun place to spend a day. How do you get there? Are there any cafes or should I pack a lunch? I'd also like to hear about other good snorkel spots or fun things people have done on St. Croix.
Buck island is an undeveloped national park protected island. There is no development or buildings on the island. It is a great place and has some of the best snorkeling and diving in the usvi. You can get there on one of several different daily excursion boats. They can also provide food and some limited facilities on board. You could also charter a small boat and go yourself. I know someone who sails over often on a board or small sailboat.
The best snorkeling on st croix is cane bay or the west end. The best thing on St Croix is the great food. You will find more interesting restaurants than almost any place in the Caribbean.
We went on the Diva with Captain Francis in December 2001. http://www.buckisland-diva.com/ It was awesome going on a sailboat - we only had a total of four passengers and we each packed our own lunches. Back when the cruiseships would stop at St Croix, we'd see larger motorized boats packed with people heading there. We just personally enjoyed the peacefulness of the sailboat. Dunk is right - the restaurants are great too!
WOW! I remember going to Buck Island on Yacht sundays...in a boat with a singer named Luwellyn! There was also a chick named Bunny who had a fishing boat right there...does anyone remember the Moonraker/ Lodge Hotel.....1981ish...?////// I worked there...a lady named Romi Truenger owned it back then
have not been back there yet...but planning on it
Take the half day or full day Buck Island trip on a sail boat with Big Beard's Adventure Tours. A wonderful trip.
