Has anyone on this board gone on the big brown sailboat out of Gallows Bay? I saw it last year and I've been to their website http://www.worldoceanschool.org, so I have all the basic info.
What I'm looking for is sombody who actually went sailing on it and what I can expect.
Thanks.
I went out on it last year and it was a great afternoon. I think the sail lasted about 2.5hrs. My husband and I were able to help haul up the sails (hard work! but fun), then one of the crew (he looked like Johnny Depp) gave a little talk about the history of the boat and the organization itself. My husband actually took a turn at the helm which he was thrilled about. The rest of the time was spent sitting back with a great rum punch and chatting with the crew. The crew is what made it for me. My husband was just happy to be out on the water, but the crew were interesting and chatty. They were so friendly, they had great stories about living on the boat, and about what they were teaching the kids.
It was a nice relaxing afternoon.
Hope that helps.
The boat is called the Roseway - a beautiful boat.
The Roseway was great fun. Went for a sail last year. It's pretty low key, but you do get to help haul up the sails. The crew really is great, we were introduced to the ship by friendly young woman from Canada, who was also the bartender and the first mate second as a historian. If you're looking for a laidback afternoon, with a little bit of history with your drink, it'd be great. If you're looking for something more high energy, I'd recomment snorkel/sail with Big Beard.
This boat is drop dead gorgeous. She is world famous, and does a great job with their teaching programme. If you have the chance to get on her, don't delay....You're so lucky that she is in the area.
