*Can you tell me the history behind the broken dish pieces found washed up on the shore?

Also, looking to purchase a 'rustic' looking map for my house of St. Croix. Preferring 3'x3' or close. Whocan you refer me to?

Thank you so much for your time.

I don't know anything about the china pieces, but there is a store in Mongoose Junction, in Cruz Bay STJ, that sells maps (one that hangs above my son's bed) of the Virgin's (British and US) that is really cool and rustic. I'm sure someone who frequents this board will be able to give you more details.

I am betting they could be from the Danes of a few decades ago.

There is a jeweler on the dock in Christiansted that makes earrings, cuff links, necklaces, etc. from broken bits of china found on St. Croix. I would think you could get some insight there.

The pieces of china are called chaney. Here is a brief description and a link to a place in St. Croix that sells jewelry made from the pieces: http://www.islandboydesigns.com/show_cat.php?cat_id=9&cat_name=Chaney%20Collection

On an early trip to St. Croix I purchased reproduction of a map of the Caribbean dated 1715. Strangely enough it is from a collection of historic urban plans in Ithaca, NY (about 50 miles from my home!). I is titled "A Map of the West Indies". The address on the map says it is published by Historic Urban Plans, Box 276, Ithaca, NY 14851. I bought it from a small shop in the Apothecary Hall courtyard, but that was ages ago and I'm pretty sure it's no longer there (although I haven't gone looking for it). The scale house (Tourist Center) on the waterfront in Christiansted or the Landmark Society Museum Store on Company Street would good places to ask.
