Hello all!

I would like to surprise my father with a couple bottles of his favorite liquor, Pelinkovac, which is not available in the USVI when I come down to STT in June. Can anyone tell me how many bottles of liquor you are allowed to bring into the USVI?

Much love to all who post.

Thanks, Heather

Blujahz,

Not tryig to argue here, just trying to understand...

You say:
do not go to the store here just to pick-up these specific items -
Isn't this going to the store??
this is general shopping. You make it sound as it is more difficult to do here, and have to lug it all. It is not - otherwise I wouldn't.
but, if you buy it there and bring it here, aren't you lugging it with you? Wouldn't it be a whole lot easier, and cheaper for the booze, to do it once you were here. Plus, that's help support out local economy...don't you agree? Or do you just not care abut the local economy here?

What extra money? A few dollars extra for GG vodka here versus at the Starfish market?
A few?? Have you checked the diference in liquor from here compared to the States??

Actually, I think GG vodka (BIG bottle) is probably cheaper at Costco than Starfish anyway (not that it is important).
Not sue about Starfish, but I definitelt know it's aLOT cheaper at other locations...

I do it because I have it here and I do not have to worry about it there - and it is easy.
I don't understand what 'worry' would come into play, however, as long as you fel it's easier, do it your way...just trying to offer an alternative that would save you time and money...

On this side I do very little lugging except from my front door
How do you get it to your front door? Do't you have to go to a store first, buy it, lug it home, then pack it, before you can start the vacation lugging??
to our airport ride (about 20 feet) - then to the outside check-in at the airport (about 10 feet). On the STT - I only lug the bag (on wheels) to the Westin office at STT (about 200 feet) - and let them lug the rest to show up in our condo. Really not a big effort. I don't know if Starfish even carries GG (nor do I care) - I am bringing the meat, the wine and Peets coffee anyway - why do I care if another liter of GG vodka (2lbs?) -
You bring meat?? Haha! I don't kow if you are aware of it, but we actually have those items here, as well Haha!

that takes up very little room - is included? I am bringing one well-packed bag and one small carry-on - really - no big deal.

I have certainly been to STJ and BVI enough times to know what works for me.
Hey, do what makes you happy, that's what vacation is all about...just trying to be friendly and offer you some options that may make you trip that much easier, therefore more enjoyable...I'll shut up and quit trying to be helpful now...

The OP was about bringing alcohol into the USVI - I was merely stating that I do - for the reasons stated.

Oh yeah - we bring liquid laundry soap also.... LOL.
Gee, that's a good idea...no WAY could you find that on-island!

Thank heaven that Starfish carries Sierra Nevada ale - now that would be lugging.... LOL

Anway... best. we are looking forward to our upcoming visit - sure hope Starfish still carries SN - I prefer real ale.
Couldn't you just pack another couple cases of that and send it down with your meat and liquor? What's another 20 lbs? You don't do much 'lugging', remember?

That last probably sounded rather silly, and it was supposed to...just trying one last comment to help drive the point home...you can get everything you need here..and NEVER worry about your luggage showing up a day later with a lot of broken bottles and melted items. Buying here is easy, about the same cost (when you take into consideration the savings on some and the higher cost on others), and makes for one less ting to be concerned with before leaving for vacation....but, I guess this is all just hot air, as tourists will always do what they think is best for them, even in the glaring face of ideas opposed to theirs....c'mon down, have lotsa fun, spend lotsa money, go home...see ya next year!

I would bring -Pelinkovac- as a surprise for your father for sure!!
Wine and coffee snobs - self described - should bring what makes them happy. Steak snobs - the same, I am sure Costco is a quality butcher store - never knew that.
However I would really like to meet the person who is a ketchup, relish, mustard, mayo, salt and pepper snob, who finds 'packets' of them to be superior to what is available here unless they are the fine sauce for the excellent steaks.
I have read before of laundry soap preferences but the thread was about liquor. Yes!! Bring some Pelinkovac!! Now-- what is it??

Thanks to all who posted.

My Dad says you have to order a case of whatever you want to have special ordered to a liquor store, at least in the places he has checked in STT. He lives on a 26' sailboat . . . there isn't enough room for a case of anything! That is why I started this maelstorm in the first place.

The other day, he asked one of the Customs guys the same question. Even he really didn't have a straight answer.

At any rate, my father will be tickled to death when I give him the two bottles of Pelinkovac I plan to smuggle in my checked baggage.

No limit on bringing any liquor into the islands. Now, if for resale there will be some procedures to follow.
Somehow, on the other issue, I try and pack as light as I can. Could care less what something costs or if it's available where I go. I usually try and consume what is available locally. If it's good, that's good. If terrible, oh well. I won't lose any sleep over it though. It's part of the adventure of traveling to me.

Sierra Nevada beer is being a beer snob? I think not. You can do better than that, can't you? Makes me wonder about your wine choices.
I do agree with the ease of not having to go shopping around when you just get there, however. When we arrive, our first order of business is to get comfy in as little clothing as possible and relax by the pool or in the sand with a cold "something"!

To each their own! It is not up to any of us to tell someone what and how they want to do things! We are here to offer suggestions and help only, not to criticize!
Having said that, bring what you wish! Just make sure the containers are not breakable if you can as I HAVE seen people get their luggage off the belts with red wine dripping from them! Bum deal for sure! I DO have guests that make special trips to certain stores for their wine....storing of wine DOES make a difference!

Each airline has there own rule, but here is an example from Continental...

Alcoholic beverages in retail packaging may be checked as baggage. A customer will be permitted to check up to 5 liters (1.3 gallons). The alcoholic beverages should be packed to prevent breakage. Continental shall not be liable for breakage or spillage of alcoholic beverages.

And realize that your suit case will more than likely be opened by security...

you are good daughter

I would love to enjoy other real ales, but have never seen any while on STJ that I would drink over a SN - a real ale btw - that is actually uses kreusen to carbonate the beer in the bottle (scrubs oxygen). I have had the VI Pale Ale, but don't like fruity beers. Do you have a suggestion? I was a Brewer once...
btw, wine wise - Ridge and Turley Zins... Dunn for Cab, and for example - we live in NorCal...

Liquor in St. Thomas is so much less expensive than in the states. People come to St. Thomas no only for the beautiful beaches but for the cheap alcohol. 🙂
