Obviously with the TSA liquid restrictions going through security with rum, etc. is out, and I believe the duty-free store at the St. Thomas airport is before you go through security?.....Anyone have ideas/experience with bringing liquor back? I am somewhat hesitant to put it in my checked luggage and have all my stuff soaked in rum should the bottle break. Do any of the stores (AH Riise, etc.) pack liquor for airline travel? Thanks!
Keith:
We have done both.....a six pack box and packed bottles (well wrapped) in our luggage. We have never had a broken bottle. When packing the six pack box I used extra bubble wrap to cushion the bottom and sides of each bottle.

Most people are buying at the STT airport and checking it through as a piece of their luggage - the airport is now packing them very securely as this is now the requirement.

Hi I have always checked my booze never had a problem on AA but last time flew US and every one was broken at least that is what they said never got any boxes or anything I think the ground crew at philly had a party
We have used the 6 pack boxes like you get at A.H. Riise with great success checking them as luggage on AA. We don't use bubble wrap though. We use dirty undies to cushion the bottles. This might also dicourage pilfering. LOL.
I have always brought back liquor (6 bottles) from STT - always packed it in my luggage in the "puffy" stuff Rubbermaid makes for lining draws/cupboards -- wrap rubberbands around the bottles to hold the "puffy" stuff on. Nothing ever broke for me. If you buy enough bottles, they will all place the liquor in a cardboard case, but it's a pain to carry it -- especially when you are in line at the airport (to go back home) to check in. Kmart has the best liquor prices -- about $10.50 for Absolut.
