Hi there!
My guy and I will be spending two weeks from the middle of August, in St John.
We have heard ohw expensive groceries and particularly fruit is in St John.
I have never packed food for a vacation. I know you can fly dry goods and canned, but what about fruit? (I gotta have my bananas!) And veggies? Is there any restrictions I should know about?
Thanks for any info!!..........Zuzu
The only restriction I am aware of ...is your ability to carry what you bring.
While I understand some 'need' to bring favorites on your vacation and yes, the prices for some items are more expensive than the mainland, take time to explore the foods of the islands. What a pity it would be to have spent so much time there and not be able to experience the place.
You will be restricted to carrying processed foods only when you return to the mainland.
not to start a fight ...the last time this was a post a lot of people got angry and ugly..........you can find all and almost any veggie and any fruit here..and a selection of un-usual things to try...........fish and shellfish can be hard to find but is available at a 20 to 40 percent higher mark up than most of the states....I have found the meat is cheaper for some cuts and a few dollars more for premium cuts.........but a very good selection is available..........I personally bring meat and shellfish back with me when returning from the states,......and have friends when they come down bring me some select cuts........veal, stone crab, cheese and dry meats.......but this is only my opinion......and you can come in with whatever you want but you can not leave with any produce.
